“Perfect Love”

Blog 34  14 Jun 202I ©PhotographybyJeanetteCubley All rights reserved

When taking an newborn or infant portrait, you must be prepared for the unexpected. The unexpected is exactly what happened in this portrait of Little baby girl. I went over to the baby’s grandmother’s house to do the photo Shoot.

The master bedroom was perfect because of the natural light from the bay window and the skylights. This would be a really casual photo session so as not to stress mom or the baby out.

The baby girl was asleep in her carseat when her mom put both of the dogs on the bed to see what they would do. As soon as I saw both dogs walk over to the carseat without even a bark and just look at the baby, I started taking photographs. This is one of my favorites from this Photography sitting.

MY Photography Adventure ( cont’d) BLOG 5 The Phone Call

LATE SEPTEMBER – EARLY OCTOBER 1987

October 4, 2020 ©2020PhotographybyJeanetteCubley All rights reserved all my articles and Images all subject to Copyright Laws

I found enough change so I could call my mom.  I could not figure out why my mom was trying to reach me. Did something happen? Was my family ok? Was my Dad alright? This was all going through my head as I dialed my mom’s phone number

My hands were sweaty. The phone rang.  Was there a car crash? Who was hurt? The phone rang a second and third time. My friends came over to see what was wrong because by now sweat was pouring down my forehead visually. I was nervous. The phone rang a fourth time. Why is no one ANSWERING? What is going on?I found enough change so I could call my mom.  I could not figure out why my mom was trying to reach me. Did something happen? Was my family ok? Was my Dad alright? This was all going through my head as I dialed my mom’s phone number.

Finally, my mom picked up the phone. Immediately I started asking her a bunch of question the ones that hand been fill my head this last 20 minutes since going into the office. and finding out she wanted me to call her urgently.

My mom, who hardly raises her voice, Yelled “Jeanette GIGI!” I immediately stopped talking. Mom told me all about Kevin calling her and asking for a way to get in touch with me.

I was in shock. Kevin and I have been writing to each other since Jan 1986. But I never believed I would ever see him again. In all his letter’s he had sent me all of them were casual. None of them gave the hint of him wanting to see me again. Though my heart yearned for that. I took down Kevin’s information. I thanked mom for the information and  I said “I love you, and would call again soon. I hung up the phone and gathered up the extra change.

I did not know whether to cry or shoot for joy! By then my friends saw I was off the phone. They came over to get the details of what happened. I told them. Thank goodness I did not have a class right then because I could not concentrate on anything.  My stomach was full of BUTTERFLIES! Bridgette suggested we go for lunch so I could catch my breath from all the excitement. We all got in her car and drove down by the Victorville mall just off the 15 North freeway to Taco Time.

MY Photography Adventure ( cont’d) BLOG 4 Backstory

Backstory Blog 4 September 22 2020 ©2020PhotographybyJeanetteCubley all my articles and Images all subject to Copyright Laws
Kevin and I dated several years before and we broke up just before he left his new duty station in Germany in July of 1985. I believed I would never see or talk to him again.
I had been complaining about how badly I missed him to my sister and brother in law and their ANSWER was “a change of scenery would do me some good.” They took it upon themselves to talk to my parents and my mom setup the appointment for me to see our church congregation leader as the college was a 2-year private college owned by my church and I would be able to get some financial assistance. This plus my education benefits from the Air National Guard, I was set with the cost of the apartment and my monthly pay from doing my one weekend per month, student loan, I was set for one year away from my parents my siblings and meeting new people.
Within 6 weeks, I changed my Air National Guard Unit to Boise, bought a used car, and moved into the apartment I would share with five roommates for the year. I was there to study, to get a change of scenery and to allow my broken heart to heal.
I was not at school very long before I felt the impression to call Kevin’s Parents and ask for his address in Germany, I spoke with Kevin’s father. I told him I missed Kevin dearly. Kevin’s dad gave me his address. I began a weekly letter writing campaign to Kevin. From August 1985 to January 1986, I received no response from him. I continued to write. Then in Late January, I received a letter. We continued writing to each other throughout the rest of the time I was at college. I moved home for a few months then moved down to California. And this catches the adventure up to the phone call from my mother at Victor Valley College in early October 1997.

I moved from Spokane, WA to Adelanto, CA in August 1986. What an enjoyable change this was. I expanded into portrait photography when I took my B&W photography class at Victor Valley Community College in the Spring 1987. This was great class because my classmates and friends were great models. I learned how to process and print B&W film.  I became proficient in processing the images by using dodging and burning tools that would make my photography perfect.
I took my brother’s Wedding and Reception photographs during spring break of 1987. I took the Reception Photographs in Black and White film. I processed them and printed them at the school’s B&W LAB and turned them in as extra credit. I also gave some prints to my Brother and his new wife.  I also was honored to do the Wedding photography of Msgt Sullivan. I printed the images and gave them to the couple in an album.
That summer, while attending school, I was hired as a parttime photographer for a small magazine. I had assignment that included homes, animals and a variety of different assignments.

I graduated in the summerof 1987 from Victor valley college. I had my friends from school there to support me and root me on.

I took several classes in the fall of 1987. I took Speech Communication and Accounting.  The lady who hired me to nanny her children in exchange for room and board, told me that since she was getting married, She would no longer need me  Luckiy, I found a studio apartment and the neighbors were very nice.  As a starving college student, food money was in short supply. Ihad one nughbor who would gIve me USDA surplus Cheese. I lived off of the cheese and rice. I hadaroof over my head and food in my stomach ( I did not know anything about food stamps because glowing up my parent’s received help with food) I was active at Church but did not know who to talk to about food.

At the beginning, the semester I filled out the Admissions and financial aid paperwork so I could attend San BernadIno state College starting January 1988. The campus was down the Cajon pass 20 miles on I-15. I was really excited about living in the dorms and going to a 4 year college.

It was an early October day, I was sitting with my friend Bridgette and her boyfriend, when I was handed a note that said “Call your mother Urgent”
